Planned projects within the Maldives include:
- Hanimaadhoo International Airport Development: This project, with a total project value of USD 136 million, is aimed at accommodating Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircrafts upon completion. This infrastructure project, being the largest outside of the Greater Male’ Region, is expected to catalyze economic growth and prosperity, especially in the northern atolls of the Maldives. The development will include a new runway, fuel farm, and a passenger terminal among other facilities.
- Gan International Airport Development: Financed through the Indian Exim Bank, this project will develop a terminal capable of catering to 1.5 million passengers annually. The upgrade includes duty-free shops, restaurants, lounge facilities, cargo facilities with cold storage, a new control tower, and a fire station. This project aims to make Gan International Airport a hub of economic growth for the south of Maldives.
- Lh. Felivaru Cold Storage Complex Development: A USD 23 million project funded under the line of credit facility extended by the Exim Bank of India. It involves the development of a 4000MT cold storage complemented with a 200MT brine freezing facility, an 80MT refrigerated seawater facility, a 50MT block ice plant, and a 100MT ice storage.
These projects are part of a broader initiative to enhance the Maldives’ infrastructure, improve international connectivity, and boost local and foreign investments in various sectors.
